A time to Celebrate!
Part of service learning is to celebrate our successes.  It has been an amazing spring.  We designed, collaborated, painted, planted, and ate food!  The last thing was to enjoy each others company and well eat food.
There are several people to thank for this event.  Steve Davis, Laura and Deb from the CHS Kitchen Staff for cooking, preparing, serving and helping with clean up.  They served hamburgs, veggie burgers, hotdogs, potato wedges and fruit.  Sophia for two potato salads and cupcakes.  Mr. R. for cole slaw.  Mrs. L. for chips, carrots and condiments.  Nik for two pies.  Tracey for the tables and chairs.  If anyone was missed thank you!

Happy End of the 2012-2013 School Year!!!

This was our last time outside for this year.  Principal Minor treated us to two blueberry bushes for the garden beds.  Marigolds will help keep the animals out (hopefully).  Flower bulbs were also planted.  Painting and letters are to be continued... next year!
Hang loose!
Our two blueberry bushes.  Digging out the soil, mixing with peet moss and compost.  The finishing touches will be marigolds and bark mulch.

Still working hard... no these are just action shots!

Flower bulbs 4" apart and corn are being planted.

The students decided to paint the beds and add "CHS", "LAKERS", "RESPECT", "RESPONSIBILITY" and "PRIDE" on the outside of the beds.  These words will be finished next year, however, the outlining continues.

Salsa preparation for MBS Taste Test
Foods class spent today preparing Fresh Tomato Salsa and Peach Pineapple Salsa.  On Friday, MBS students will have an opportunity to "taste test" our salsa.  Enjoy!

Thanks Steve and Laura for making cooking at CHS possible and a fun experience for the Foods class.

                                                               Step 1: Chopping
...more vegetables?
We got this!
...pineapples and peaches
Everyone is working hard
"When I was a young I used to have to chop bushels and bushels of vegetables so we could get through the winter."

That is the BIG knife.
... still chopping
How small do the pineapples have to be?

We keep smiling but there are so many tomatoes!

Step 2: Mixing

Skillful guidance from Laura

I like to mix!

It needs more...

Salsa  anyone?
